Nothing Gold Can Stay (2018)

Nothing Gold Can Stay is a warm and harmonically rich setting of the Robert Frost poem of the same name. This piece bears the distinction of being my first ever choral composition! The audio is from the live premiere of the work by the Bowling Green High School Choir under the direction of Patricia Beresford.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
